When we were looking for a wooden toy for our son, we came across problem of simply not finding anything of high quality. We also noticed a gender-coding problem, which leads to development of stereotypical thinking. We don’t agree that cars are for boys and dolls are for girls. As parents, we are concerned about our kids not having a limited perception of the world.
In 2014 “ Association of designers in Slovenia” organised a competition to support new product ideas for export market. We thought of it as a perfect opportunity to develop our own concept of wooden toys. As a result, we created project “Did-aktikaa”.
“Did-aktikaa” is a modular toy system with abstract characters. Gender, age, colour or any other possible frame does not limit the design of these toys. Collecting different parts together exercises not only imagination and storytelling game, but also fine motor skills.
